Common Sense on Patriotism

Can an atheist be a patriot? http://qr.ae/71sFYz

An atheist can absolutely be a patriot in a secular nation like the US.

In fact, I are one! With a vengeance. Loud and proud! Now, note carefully that I never wave the flag, and I’ve never once said “Love it or leave it.” to anyone, nor will I. That brand of false patriotism is strictly for children and the feeble minded. I love my nation and her Citizens as an adult, thus when our government screws the pooch as its been doing so often of late, I call my nation and Our government to do better. In fact I demand it.

Take a look at my writing here Fixerguys Common Sense or at Fixerguy.net

This rigged system we’ve been forced into is completely unacceptable on a personal level, a human Rights level, and a Constitutional level.

The fact that our elected officials are in the midst of ramming that treason against Our Constitution known as TPP down our throats is unacceptable on those same levels, and is a direct intentional violation of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment because they’re doing it to service their corporate bribers (which “Bribery of Public Officials” is a 10 year felony under RICO… as is their acceptance of those bribes and the Quid Pro Quo which accompany them).

I assert that Our Congresscritters are specifically directed, and limited, by Our Constitution to work for Us, the Citizens. I assert that their number 1 job is to “Protect Our Constitution from all enemies foreign and domestic” (including their corporate fascist bribers), and that Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to Our Constitution makes that oath legally binding upon them.

Still not enough? Ok, here’s the kicker:

I’m a Navy Veteran which means that I have put my life on the line for your Rights, as well as my own. Even though I might not agree with your beliefs, or find any valid use in them for me, I still acted to protect your Right to believe as you will in your home. How much more placing Principles and Oaths over personal beliefs could you possibly want?

Here’s the Oath I took with my hand upon a copy of Our Constitution:
I, Kris Rosvold, do solemnly swear on the Constitution of the United States Of America that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me.

I meant every single word then, and it still binds my actions to this day, nearly 35 years later. No truer words have passed my lips.

I would even assert that I’m more a Patriot than many theists, because I have nothing which demands a higher priority than the oath I gave then, and give today.

I also have zero illusions. So when I’m talking about government, my first question in considering any government action is;
Who profits from this?! The answer to this one simple Question tells me precisely who they’re actually working for.

In Christian tradition this is known as “and ye shall know them by their fruits.”
